December 2018 Athlete of The Month #AOTM
Happy New Year, fitness people! First and foremost, we’d like to apologise for running super late on our Athlete of the Month series, we know how much you guys are waiting on this! IF you are new to this, each month, our coaches will choose one member to be featured in this series. We hope this would boost our athlete’s motivation, show our appreciation for our members and also empower our athletes to do their best in their training!
Eileen “Sui Yee” Kee is the self-proclaimed “oldest in jbox” but if anyone could be young at heart, it’s her. We love Eileen for the positive vibes she brings with her everywhere she goes, the light-hearted jokes she would make with anyone she talks to and the grit she shows in everything she does.
We first met Eileen is September of 2016 when she joined our Bootcamp classes, and then jumping into our CrossFit classes in March 2017. From there, making new friends has never been a problem for her – when you meet her, you’ll know why!
We sat down with her to talk more about her goals, and when we say we, we meant 90% of the box sat in the background listening to the interview ready to hackle.
Hi Eileen! What’s your favourite meal?
Anything at all! Because I like to eat!
But if it was your very last meal, what would it be?
Chicken nuggets, yep. …… Is that considered healthy?? *cricket*
What prompted you to start joining our classes?
I just want to feel healthy and more energetic. That’s why I started coming here. It has made me feel happier and healthier. I also get along with people here at the box! I also try to eat at least one healthy meal per day. Sometimes I have no time to prepare my food, but when I do, I try to have at least 1 or 2 healthy meal per day.
What has kept you consistent in attending classes and working out here?
After work, usually I have nothing to do. So I suppose this is the best I can do. Come here and exercise. I also get to see my friends here!
When I first started here, I just wanted the experience. I wanted to know how it felt like to carry heavy weights. I admire people who could do that! I first started off attending bootcamp classes and then only after that I started attending CrossFit classes. I wanted to try something different, so I started doing CrossFit.
Have you lost weight since joining us?
Yes! Maybe around 14-15?
*applause and cheers in the background* Steady Eileeeeen
Did you have prior experience in lifting weights before you joined us?
I carried sacks of rice…..and that’s it.
What advice would you give to your past self?
Just try it. It won’t kill you, as much as you think it would.
Would you say you would still be doing CrossFit in the long term?
If I stay in Brunei for long, yes! Even if I were to go back to Miri, I would still continue CrossFit. But I think nothing can ever replace Jbox for me! *eeeeyyyaaaahhh*
What are your 2019 goals?
Handstand push ups! I feel like I still cannot do it because I’m scared of flipping upside down! But that’s what I want to try this year!
What advice do you have to give to others out there?
Come over and try for yourself. In my experience, I think it’s fun! You learn from square one, just like everyone else here. At one point, everyone started off a beginner and everyone here is still learning at their own pace! No one is a complete master of everything. So just try it out.
What else would you like to say to our friends reading this (and everyone else listening in the background)?
Be nice to me!!!
*everyone in the background explodes in laughter* ….. because Eileen likes to tease people and she’s the easiest person to tease back.
Ok Eileen, let’s hear you say “Eileen peace out!”
BAH SUDAH LAH!
